Football Coaching Certification Minimum Requirements

There are pre-requisites courses for coaching football in Canada and with the BCPFA.

  • Making Headway in Football (Concussion Awareness) - Required for Tackle and Non-Contact Football (Free online through the NCCP Locker)​

​

  • Safe Sport (Making sport safer for athletes and coaches)- Required for Tackle and Non-Contact Football (Free online through the NCCP Locker)

​

 

  • Novice Coaching (How to Coach)- Required for Tackle and Non-Contact Football (In-Person through the BCPFA REQUEST COURSE HERE)

​

  • Making Ethical Decisions- Required for Tackle and Non-Contact Football (In-Person or online through Viasport or BCPFA)

Making Headway

The Making Head Way E-learning module is a requisite for tackle football in BC and throughout Canada. You can complete the model here: https://www.coach.ca/concussion-awareness-s16361

To begin, you will require a NCCP#. If you have never taken an NCCP course and need a NCCP#, please register with The Locker.

 

Safe Contact 

This workshop is mandatory for coaching all ages of athletes who participate in tackle football. The goal of this module is to provide coaches with the tools required to create a safer environment for their athletes, while improving overall skill level.
 

Techniques and drills to teach safe contact will be highlighted, in addition to learning how to analyze and correct athletic performance

 

Upon completing this module coaches will be able to:

 

  • Address Fear of Contact

  • Teach Safe Tackling

  • Teach Safe Blocking

  • Teach Safe Contact for Ball Carriers

  • Analyze Performance
